Nowhere to Run

Dylan adjusted the weight of her pack on her shoulders, well aware of the fact that there was almost no possible way to make carrying over a hundred pounds of supplies on her back comfortable. She had no idea why she had overloaded so severly except the fact that she hadn't eaten anything in more than three days when stumbled upon that cache. Briefly, she considered leaving the food for someone else to find, but then she decided that it would be too much of a waste.

Kira watched silently from the shadows as the other human struggled with an obviously heavy pack. She toyed with the idea of helping for a moment before deciding against it. No one would have helped her in the same situation, anyway.

She flicked a strand of black hair out of her right eye before adjusting the bandages over the left. Those would need to be changed again soon, or....

The Russian shook her head quickly, getting rid of that train of thought, and went back to watching the struggle with the backpack. She'd keep moving once the other survivor had passed on. She had patience. She could wait.

Wrapping her arms tighter around herself, she sank deeper into the shadows and allowed her black clothes to act as camoflouge. Yes, she could wait....

(OOC--Oh, once she starts talking, I'll attempt typing with an accent. Expect a few fails there....)

Dylan gritted her teeth together and stared at the ground, trudging wearily forward another few steps until she finally let the straps slid from her back and the pack drop to the ground. The cans inside clanked together and she cursed herself, pulling the only handgun she had from the waistband of her pants. She held the black-finished semi-atuomatic pistol at arms length and pointed to the ground, her eyes scanning the street with the light that filtered through the ruins of the apartement building that stood to her left.

Her breathing quickend and her heart seemed to skip a beat when there was a long scraping sound from the building next to her and her head snapped over to stare into the shadows as she lifted the gun. Her eyes never left the shadows as she crouched down and unzipped the largest pocket from her dropped pack and began to withdraw the heavy black case inside.

Kira gritted her teeth as the pack clanged to the ground and froze when the other girl spun to point a gun in her direction. She shallowed her breathing and listened. She bit back a curse when she heard a scraping right next to her. Slowly, the Russian turned her head and narrowed her eye at a single zombie. Slipping through the shadows, she palmed a small knife in her sleeve. She stood just behind the undead creature now. She pulled her all-too-long sleeve out of the way so her hands were free to raise the knife, not noticing how it reflected the sunlight slightly.

Dylan saw the glint and then she pulled the trigger, not thinking about how it may be a human. They would've announced themselves right? At least, she would have. She fired off three rapid shots and took a step forward, the gun still levelled at the shadows as she made her way silently forward, searching for more movement.

Kira's eyes widened as bullets whizzed past her, impaling the zombie she was going to take down. She silently cursed herself for forgetting the other human and slowly turned to face her. She slowly, slowly, slowly placed the knife she was holding on the ground and stood back up, raising her hands to show she was unarmed. Of course, that was a lie, she had quite a few more hidden knives, but she wasn't about to give them all up.

By this time, Dylan was close enough to make out her figure, more specifically, her not slouching, groaning, or swaying figure. She saw the zombie fall also as the ringing in her ears faded to a minimum level. When she saw the figure drop the knife she began to lower her gun, slowly, of course. And she kept the weapon in her hands, instead of putting it away. Years of streetfhighting had taught her that, at least.

"You are human, right?" She called out cautiously.

Kira never took her eyes off of the gun as she hesitantly answered. "Da. Human. You are human too, da?" She was slightly surprised that the other human hadn't killed her outright, like many others had tried to, but she refused to let that show. Instead, she watched the gun with an emotionless gaze and waited for an answer.

"Ah great, and Russian." She mumbled to herself, softly so that the other girl couldn't hear her. She briefly considered replying in Japenese, just to see what she did, but then just brushed the idea away. "Yeah." She kept the gun in one hand as she stared back, the warm grip giving her more confidence. Something about this girl just made her want to get away as soon as she could.

"Good." Kira said, picking her knife back up and tucking it into her sleeve. She then tugged the sleeve back down so it covered her hand and dangled several inches below her fingertips. She looked at the girl standing before her. She was clearly the cautious sort, used to fighting and the hard life, from the looks of it. Kira's eye narrowed. Yes, it would do her good to get away from here, before anyone-or thing-came. Perhaps she should kill this one to make sure word of her presence didn't spread....

Kira shook her head again. No, that would make matters worse. It was clear that the other girl didn't trust her, that would be enough....

Dylan, as if sensing her thoughts, felt her uneasiness grow and she cautiously backed away to pick up the long black case again. She rested her fingers on the clasps as she finally tucked the gun into the waistband of her pants once more. All of her muscels were strained and tense, ready to bolt at a moment's notice as she stared into the other girl's eye.

Kira watched the other girl move slowly back to her bag and the black case. To be honest, she couldn't care less about what was in there, but she could tell that the girl was wary, if not a little afraid, of her. If she kept staring the way she did, perhaps--

God, her eye itched.... Kira raised one covered hand and rubbed the bandaged side of her face, unaware of the fact that she looked like an innocent child, thanks to her oversized sleeve and just the way that she did it. She had to change those bandages very soon, but could she get away to do it...?

Dylan didn't see the girl's movement, as she had leaned down to pick up the pack once more. She was hefting it onto her back when she sighed and let it drop again before casting a sideways look at the girl again.

"You want any supplies?"

She asked, a little tenatively.

Kira almost said no, but then rethought things. "Actually....Da, I do need one thing. I'm almost out of bandages." Kira paused. "It is....important that I do not run out." She looked at the other girl a moment. "If you vant, ve could trade." She knew of a nice supply base, but she had no need of it, with the amount she moved. But.... She couldn't move, could she, not with--

The Russian cut off her train of thought. "I can take you to supplies, ve can trade. That is okay, da?"

(OOC--Enter le fail accent....)

Dylan just nodded her acceptance and set down the black case in order to pick up her bag again. She tightened the straps around her chest and hips so that she had both hands free before she picked up the case again. Usually, she would just put the case back in her bag, but she still didn't trust this girl enough for that. She needed the contents of the case as accesable as possible.

(OOC--Wow, I didn't realize you posted a reply until I saw the page two....I fail that much....)

Kira tightened the scarf around her neck and began walking. Out of habit, she stuck to the shadows, slipping through them easily. Her scarf fluttered and trailed behind her.

God, her eye was hurting. It couldn't be infected, could it? Kira muttered curses in Russian under her breath. If it was infected, she was screwed.

She brushed her hair out of her eye and kept going until she reached a small, half-collapsed house. "Be careful of glass. There is much in here." The Russian slipped through a hole in the rubble and waited for the other girl to come inside.

(( Lol, I used to do that too. The habit breaks quickly. ))

Dylan watched the girl, slightly amazed at how she was so easily slipping from shadow to shadow, as if she herself was one. An easy predator, she couldn't help thinking as she clumsily followed. Compared to Kira, she was as uncoordinated as a zombie and as loud as one. She stepped over a particularly large shard of glass only to crunch on a smaller piece. She looked around once more before she ducked in after the Russian.

(OOC--Good to know I'm not alone....Gotta get off after this post, prolly won't be on 'till next weekend, due to computer rules....You remember those, I told you about them last year~ Those damned things are still in place....)

Kira glanced behind her at the clumsier girl. It was a wonder that she'd even made it this far without getting killed by the zombies. Oh, well. The Russian slipped through the ruined, half-collapsed house, dodging around fallen rafters and bloodstained furniture. She opened a trapdoor in the ground and slipped down the stairs, jumping lightly over a broken stairstep or three on the way.

She flicked on a light and turned to watch the other human make her way down to the well-stocked cellar. Someone was obviously preparing for the apocalypse, but died quickly, seeing as the place was so well-stocked with food and things. Sucks to be them.

Dylan had her share of trouble, unable to leap as freely with the pack weighing her down. In fact, it almost seemed once that she would fall flat on her face because of it's added weight when she tripped on a lifted edge. But she had avoided the embaressment and possibility of injury by regaining her footing after only a couple of half-stumbles down the stairs.

The teen seemed amazed as her eyes flicked around the cellar and silently vowed to search houses more thoroughly before she moved on.

Kira almost smirked at the other girl's struggles. "Take vhat you need. I'm moving along soon, so I won't be needing anything from here, da?" She crossed her arms and leaned against a shelf and muttered to herself. "The things you find...."

Dylan nodded and then slipped the bag off, opening a pocket fillind with medial supplies. She gestured to it. "And you the same." She said as she started to poke and prod into the supplies.

"спасибо." Kira thanked her and searched through the medical whatnot. She squinted at the English writing on most of it, annoyed. Nothing ever came in a language she could use. In the end, she just went with what she knew she could use, which was a roll of bandages. She tucked it into one of her many zippered pockets and adjusted her scarf. She watched the other girl for a moment before slipping away.

She silently went up the stairs and into another part of the house where the collapsed rafters made a slight hollow. She poked her head in. "Oliver...?"

He wasn't there.

Her eye widened. "нет...." She whispered. "нет, нет, нет...." She staggered back a few steps before beginning a frantic search of the house.

(OOC--Mmmm....Russian....And I won't be posting enything for Oliver, you'll soon see why.)

Dylan cursed as blood welled in a line on her index finger where the package had just given her a papercut. She straightened up and went over to her bag, pulling out a handful of cans to replace them with lighter items. She placed the cans on the shelf and then went to explore some more.

Now that the bag wasn't weighing her down she was surprisingly silent as she ghosted through he shelves.

Kira dug through a pile of rubble before cursing to herself and jumping to her feet. She turned and ran....

....and tripped over a fallen beam.

She faceplanted on the ground with as much grace as a seal out of water. Her legs curled up over her back and her arms went out in front of her.

All she could do was blink in surprise.

Dylan jumped when she heard a loud noise and looked around, just relizing that the girl was missing. She swallowed the lump in her throat and then darted back over to where she had set the black case, kneeling down to unlatch it with shaking hands. She looked at the shining instrument of death inside and then stood up quickly, the three-foot long katana clutched in her hands.
